Malaysian King abdicates months after marrying Russian beauty queen

Malaysia’s King Sultan Muhammad V has shockingly abdicated, just three months after he married a former beauty Queen.

The 49-year-old king’s move was unexpected, due to the fact that he only took over the throne two years ago.

It’s also the first time in the country’s history that a king has abdicated, since the country gained independence from the UK 60 years ago.

No reason was given for his abdication, however there have been reports that he married former Russian beauty Queen, Oksana Voevodina,in November.

Photos on social media show the king dressed in a military blue Malaysian national tunic, while Oksana can be seen decked out in an elaborate lace bridal gown.
The couple are surrounded by nine bridesmaids in the picture, each one wearing baby blue gowns.

The king had gone on medical leave in November, just days before his wedding.

“His majesty tells the people of Malaysia to continue to be united to maintain unity, tolerance, and work together,” a statement from the palace read.
