MAFS' Melissa shares her struggles as new mum: 'Tears of pain'

Married At First Sight's Melissa Rawson has taken to Instagram to share her struggles as a new mum since she and fiancé Bryce Ruthven first brought their twins home from the hospital before Christmas.

The reality star has experienced all kinds of highs and lows since welcoming Tate and Levi into the world in October, 10 weeks early.

On Sunday, the 32-year-old took to Instagram to share that Tate has colic and she has also been crying 'tears of pain'.

"There's never been a time in your life where you feel like an absolute champion and a total failure at the same time," she wrote. "The sleepless nights turn into sleepless days. You become forgetful, distant… and wonder to yourself, 'when will this get easier?'

"That first coffee in the morning, after your little one has kept you awake all night, feels like the only friend that can help you get through the day."

She continued, recalling sleepless nights, "When colic sets in, you’re matching tears of pain with your baby, wishing you could do anything to relieve theirs. And feeling so unbelievably guilty as you begin to unintentionally pay less attention to their sibling or your partner.

"But even through all of this - you manage to find something within yourself to power through each day. You find the strength when you look into your baby’s eyes. That beautiful little smile (even if it is wind). Those fleeting moments of koala cuddles. You remember that you have never loved anything quite like your baby."

In another Instagram post, Melissa shared her disbelief in the lack of information about fighting colic.

"I find it quite unbelievable the lack of research and studies invested in combating colic in babies," she said. "Basically all studies (govt and university - not .com sites) show there is no treatment and no cure."

"Tate has had colic for five days now and he spends 50 percent of the day screaming (rest of the clay sleeping as he has tuckered himself out) and it is truly heartbreaking as nothing, not even cuddles, relieves him."

Melissa has previously shared with her followers that she underestimated the lack of sleep she would get as a mum, calling it "next level".

"You are told by everyone that, 'enjoy your sleep now, you're not going to get any sleep when the baby arrives'... and yes that's very true and I'm aware of that."

"If you're planning to have a baby, this should never change your decision about it. You won't be able to comprehend the sleep issue, I certainly didn't."

It comes as Bryce revealed the pair has been scouting locations for their upcoming wedding, asking his followers to share their favourite wedding venues in Melbourne.
