MAFS fans fuming over expert's harsh grilling: 'Unforgivable'

MAFS fans were left fuming on Sunday night as they watched one of the show's experts Mel Schilling grill Selina Chhaur about how she was responsible for their relationship's breakdown in the last week – despite Cody Bromley taking ownership of what went down between them.

Selina shared her heartbreak as she and Cody sat before the experts, explaining how they'd had an off day that led to a bad week. She explained that all she needed from him was a hug and to be told "everything's going to be OK", but he couldn't give that to her.

Cody admitted he can be quite "cold" and that he wished he'd given her the hug in hindsight but he doesn't know how to offer affection.

"It’s obviously awful, and it’s something I’m not equipped to deal with," he said. "I’m not very empathetic. I’m quite cold in that regard, and I know it. That is one of my weakest points, I don’t know how to console someone."

He added that while he does like and care for Selina, he worries he can't give her everything she needs in a partner.

Members of the group began chiming in with Domenica questioning why he isn't even trying to make her feel better, with Tamara adding that he "comes across as very emotionless".

Mel then began praising Cody and turned her focus to Selina, questioning what she had done wrong in the relationship.

"I’ve got to commend you, Cody, some of the parts of the trouble that perhaps sit with you," she said. "Selina, in your perspective, how are you contributing to the rockiness that’s happening?"

"When you look at the problems in the relationship here, do you see them as wholly sitting on Cody's side of the equation?"

While other participants appeared shocked at the questions, Selina responded, "Yes."

"How do I have my wants and needs neglected because someone can’t show any empathy?" she added.

"Let’s be really clear," Mel said. "We’re not asking you to neglect your wants and needs at all. What we’re after here is equity.

"And at the moment, we’re hearing that the accountability for the problems in the relationship, Cody, you’re owning some of them. Selina, you’re not.

"And we’re trying to understand if that’s the reality. So it’s back to you – what is it that you’re doing that’s contributing to the trouble? Because it’s obviously on both sides, it always is."

Again, a confused Selina responded, "I'm not... I'm just very confused at the moment."

"Well, you don't sound confused, you sound like you're saying all the problems are caused by Cody, is that right?" Mel pushed.

Selina explained the only reason she is upset is because of things Cody has done and that she doesn't believe she's responsible.

When it came time to the decision, Selina voted to leave, while Cody voted to stay, leaving them there to work through the relationship for another week.

Viewers slammed Mel on Twitter with one user writing, "These 'experts' are morons. Selina is doing nothing wrong. Nothing that contributes to hers and Cody's relationship breakdown other than being someone he is physically not attracted to. He is emotionally closed off and nothing but empty words."

"I honestly don’t think Selina has done anything wrong," another user wrote. "What the hell was the blonde 'expert' going on about?"

"That look of confusion on Selina’s face at Mel’s ridiculous line of questioning about what responsibility she would take for Cody’s constant gaslighting = totally warranted. Wtf," a third added.

"It's 100% Cody. Not Selina," someone else wrote.

"Um. Why is Selina on trial here?" another said.

"Can’t forgive the 'experts' for gaslighting Selina," one user added, with another agreeing, "The gaslighting of Selina by the experts is unforgivable. She needs a firm apology from them in the next episode."

At the end of their time on the couch, Mel told the pair to stop focusing on what's happened in the past and only focus on what's happening in the present.

She added that Selina isn't asking for a lot from Cody, and that he needed to "step up" this week.
