Luke Grimes Posted an Emotional ‘Yellowstone’ Tribute to His Character
Yellowstone has officially come to an end, and Luke Grimes is saying goodbye to a role that defined his career.
On December 15, fans of the hit Paramount Network series tuned in to see how the Dutton family's fate played out in the series finale. The show finally wrapped up its tenure after six and a half years on the air, and even though there's already news of a spinoff for Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), Luke needed to send off his character Kayce Dutton in a way that felt fitting to the character's time onscreen.
Ahead of the series finale, Luke went on Instagram to upload a photo of him sitting around a blazing campfire. As he had his head bent down in the image, he captioned the post with a heartfelt tribute about how much the show — and playing Kayce — meant to him over the years.
"End of an era," he emotionally wrote. "Goodbye Kayce. You are a better man than I. To my Yellowstone family, thank you for the experience of a lifetime."
Upon seeing Luke's sentimental note about how Yellowstone shaped his life, Kelly made sure to share how much her friendship with Luke has meant throughout their time on TV together.
"Love you!" she heartily replied in the comments.
What's more, Yellowstone fans were equally moved by Luke's stirring Instagram. "My favorite character and favorite show! I am not ready for it to end. 😢," one person wrote. "Thank you for your excellent performance and giving us Kayce 😍❤️🔥," another penned. "Sad to see this end. One of the best shows in a LONG time!" a different follower added.
Even though it's unclear if Luke will continue his role in any upcoming Yellowstone spinoffs (alongside the Beth and Rip series is the upcoming sequel show The Madison), we love how much he adored his time portraying Kayce Dutton. And if Kelly has anything to say about it, she clearly has similar feelings about the relationships she built with cast members (like Luke) as well.
"Hi, I’m so deep into another role at the moment... but across the pond the finale is happening tonight of the show," she wrote on Instagram on December 15. "Words cannot convey how I feel about the people I got to work and create with over the seasons. I have made true life long friends. The support from the crew and the trust and dedication of the cast. The words I got to say and the woman I got to inhabit. It changed me. It lit me up. It challenged me in every way possible and I will forever be grateful for it."
What a ride!
