'Our lucky childhood' At home with MKR'S Mitch and Laura

They auditioned for the show on a lark. Now, weeks into Seven’s hit cooking competition My Kitchen Rules, Victoria’s Mitch and Laura Skvor are looking like potential victors. As they continue to impress judges and fellow contestants alike with their calm, cool and collected approach in the kitchen, the sleeper siblings invite WHO to their family home on the Mornington Peninsula.

Laura describes the 2.5-acre spread as “in a fluent stage of perpetual building”—indeed, since their parents David and Katie purchased the land 20 years ago, they have never quite stopped fiddling with the family home. And the Skvors—who have long watched MKR together as a family—won’t have it any other way.

“We have been very lucky to have a rural childhood,” says Laura. “We spent a lot of time at the beach and a lot of time in the mud.

As children, Mitch admits, “I loved to shovel sand and just eat it.” Now, of course, his palate is far more refined … and leading him and his sister to possible victory on their favourite TV show. “It’s been insane,” he tells WHO. “We definitely didn’t expect to get this far.”

As for reports he’s something of a heartthrob with fans? He lets out a laugh. “People are saying this to me, but I don’t know why!” Interrupts Laura, “He can’t find the hearts that are a-throbbin’. Mitchell is definitely in need of romance.” To which Mitch retorts, “It’s just because Laura wants a sister-in-law, so she can actually do stuff with someone. Never mind her.”
