On her debut trip down under, US pop star Lizzo has paid Aussie radio host Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald, 43, a rather unusual compliment by calling him a ‘sexy kangaroo’.

The Juice hitmaker, 31, made the comparison between the ex-AFL player and the native animal in Sydney on Friday during an intimate performance for Nova 96.9’s Red Room series.

Fitzy and his Nova co-host Wippa were on hand to emcee the event that saw Lizzo belt out four of her biggest hits to an enthralled crowd of 400 guests.

“Those two dudes, the radio hosts, they so damn funny,” the eight-time Grammy nominee told her audience during her set.

“The tall one, you look... it is weird to say that you like a kangaroo, a sexy kangaroo? You do!” she went on, addressing two-metre tall Fitzy off stage.

She went on to thank the men for making her laugh when she was ‘feelin’ kinda sad,’ no doubt a reference to the ongoing bushfire crisis that’s claimed the lives of 27 people and half a billion animals.

Earlier in the week, Lizzo spent her two days off volunteering at Foodbank Victoria, helping to pack food hampers for locals doing it tough.

She told the crowd that initially she ‘didn’t want to tell anyone’ about her charity work as she ‘just wanted to help,’ however when her good deed was revealed she met with widespread praise.

Lizzo also remarked on her Aussie fans’ strength and resilience during such trying times and said she felt ‘lucky’ to be up on stage.

“You think you're the winners but I'm the lucky one because I get to perform for you. Thank you for embracing me,” she said.
