“Lizzie McGuire”’s Lalaine to Narrate New Audiobook About Disney Channel’s ‘Tween Empire’ (Exclusive)

The actress will lend her voice to the audio version of Ashley Spencer’s book 'Disney High,' out this fall

Lalaine is heading back to the Disney Channel in a new book.

The actress, best known for playing Miranda on the early 2000s sitcom Lizzie McGuire, will narrate the audiobook for journalist Ashley Spencer’s new book Disney High: The Untold Story of the Rise and Fall of Disney Channel's Tween Empire, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal. The new unauthorized book explores the rise and heyday of Disney Channel.

Disney High, forthcoming this fall from St. Martin’s Press, delves into the beginnings of the channel, from its conception in 1983 as a “forgotten stepchild” of the Walt Disney Company to its legacy today, per the book's synopsis. After stars from the reboot of the Mickey Mouse Club — including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling — rose to prominent stardom, the company reinvented the Disney Channel to focus on tween shows.

Spencer's book details how the channel launched the careers of young stars that were “almost entirely controlled by the corporation,” and examines the behind-the-scenes workings of the Disney machine.

The author will also look at the lasting impact of child stardom and the “feuds” on set, drawing from hundreds of new interviews with former Disney executives and celebrities.

Aside from her role on Lizzie McGuire, Lalaine also starred in the 2003 Disney Channel original movie You Wish. She also appeared in the 1999 remake of Annie, and also had a music career, releasing her debut album Inside Story in 2003.
