‘Lioness’ Season 2 Casts Genesis Rodriguez
Genesis Rodriguez has joined “Lioness” Season 2 at Paramount+, Variety has learned.
The second season of the espionage drama was announced earlier in May. Rodriguez will star as Captain Josephina Carrillo, described as “a dedicated soldier with a fierce personality” and “a skilled helicopter pilot.”

The cast also includes Zoe Saldana, Laysla De Oliveira, Nicole Kidman, Michael Kelly, and Morgan Freeman. Freeman will be a series regular in the second season. Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton and Hannah Love Lanier also star.
Rodriguez recently wrapped production on the Kevin Smith feature “The 4:30 Movie.” Her recent credits include the shows “Neon,” “The Umbrella Academy,” and “Big Hero 6: The Series,” while her film credits include “Tusk,” “Casa de mi Padre,” “Man on a Ledge,” and “Run All Night.”
She is repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
The series, which is inspired by an actual U.S. Military program, follows the life of Joe (Saldaña) “while she attempts to balance her personal and professional life as the tip of the CIA’s spear in the war on terror,” per the official logline.
Taylor Sheridan serves as an executive producer on the show along with Saldaña, Kidman, and Wagner. David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, David Lemanowicz, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman and Keith Cox also executive produce. The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
