Zoe Saldaña’s Lioness Team Swings Back Into Action in Season 2 Trailer

Paramount+ has deployed a new trailer for the second season of its military drama Lioness (fka Special Ops: Lioness), premiering Sunday, Oct. 27, with the first two episodes of eight.

Hailing from the prolific Taylor Sheridan and inspired by an actual U.S. Military program, Lioness (as the series was retitled for Season 2) follows CIA station chief Joe McNamara (played by executive producer Zoe Saldaña) as she attempts to balance her personal and professional life as the tip of the CIA’s spear in the war on terror.

The series also stars Laysla De Oliveira (who played Season 1’s titular operative, Marine Raider Cruz Mañuelos), executive producer Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Kelly, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill and Hannah Love Lanier.

New to the Season 2 mix, Bruce McGill (Reacher) will play NSA Chief Damian Hollar, Jennifer Ehle (Law & Order: Organized Crime) is Chief of Staff Mason, and Genesis Rodriguez (The Umbrella Academy) will play Captain Josephina “Josie” Carillo, a fierce and dedicated helicopter pilot. Rodriguez’s character is a major focus of the trailer embedded above as she struggles with the dubious morality of a military operation — prompting Saldaña’s Joe to repeatedly ask her, “Do you love your country?”

“It’s a strange relationship” that Joe and Josie share, Saldaña previously teased to People.com. “There’s a lot of mistrust from the beginning.”
