Yahoo Lifestyle Suki Waterhouse Opened Up About The Moment She And Robert Pattinson Decided They Were “Ready” To Have A Baby
Suki Waterhouse has shared some adorable and rare insight into her relationship with Robert Pattinson and what he’s like as a dad.
For context, Suki and Rob were first linked in 2018. Last December, People magazine confirmed that the couple got engaged, and in March this year, they welcomed their daughter, whose name they have yet to share.
Over the past six years, the pair have been relatively guarded about discussing their life together. Now, Suki has graced the cover of British Vogue with her and Rob’s newborn daughter to share a little more about their sweet relationship.
After reflecting on “very public” breakups from past exes like Bradley Cooper, Suki opened up about meeting Rob at a star-studded game night in LA.
“I was sure that I’d met him a long time ago, but he didn’t think that we had,” she began, recalling the “intense” evening. “There were lots of ‘big’ characters, real heavy hitters… Al Pacino was there. Javier [Bardem] and Penélope [Cruz] were there… and, you know, everyone was really acting.”
Eventually, she and Rob made a beeline for each other and bonded instantly. “I think we both sort of have the same slight uncomfortable-ness,” she said, remembering that they “started giggling at the absurdity of the whole thing.”
“There was a director that separated us because we were laughing too much,” she added.
Though they hit it off that night, Suki said they didn’t cross paths again for another “six or seven months” before things became more serious.
“I think Rob’s quite funny, I light up when I’m around him,” she said of their connection, adding that she “definitely became a lot more fun when [she] met him.”
Fast-forward to November 2023, when Suki told fans she was pregnant during a live performance in Mexico. Speaking to Vogue, the singer confirmed that the pregnancy was fully planned.
“No, we really planned it,” she said when asked if the baby news surprised her and Rob. “One day we looked at each other and said, ‘Well, this is as ready as we’re going to be’... I was like, ‘What can make more chaos?’”
Suki recalled her relaxed approach to pregnancy, saying: “I really had no concept that there was a baby inside me.” Although she did opt to find out the baby’s gender before it arrived to “prepare [herself] mentally.”
The 32-year-old said motherhood has been “shocking in every way” but praised Rob, who she said supported her through the birth with a rap music playlist.
“He was there with me and like all dads, he was really nervous, but for someone who’s quite an anxious person, he’s been very calm,” Suki said of her partner, who she described as “the dad I could have hoped for.”
“I mean, a dad and his daughter? It’s an actual love story,” she added.
Suki’s new album, Memoir of a Sparklemuffin, will be released on Sept. 13. In the interview, she opened up about how she found songwriting inspiration in this new era of her life as a mom and partner.
“I had a very clear feeling of being like, ‘Oh, wow, Rob and I have been together six years and I’m still really into this.’ That’s never happened to me before, that’s like a crazy thing,” she said of writing the final song on the upcoming album. “This love and having a family and having a little world…Whatever happens, this is my dream.”
As for her older material, Suki said Rob has no issue with the fact that many of her past songs were written about her exes.
“He couldn’t really give a shit. He’s like, ‘No one’s better than me, so whatever,’” she joked.
