A doctor in the US has revealed that bed linen should be washed at least once a week, minimum.
Doctor Poonam Desai warned that without regular cleaning, dirty sheets can lead to allergies, asthma, skin infections and become a breeding ground for bacteria, fungus, dust mites, dead skin cells, and even... fecal matter.
"Especially if you're sleeping naked, if you're sleeping with pets, if you're sleeping with your toddlers, if you're doing other things in your bed, you can get fecal matter on your bed sheets," she explained.
She went on to say a study was done to say that some single men have gone up to four months without washing their bed sheets.
She urged people not to forget about their pillow case and doona covers as well when doing the weekly washing.

"I change every two weeks. This is because my house is dust-free and I shower well before bed," one person explained.
"All this extreme cleanliness had made our immune system weak! I don't believe in extreme messiness either, but a little balance is good," another said.
"I rescued a single man seven years ago and let me tell you the house training was no joke," another laughed.
"Look once every two weeks is a privilege, I didn’t need to hear this today," another commented.
