King Charles diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace confirms

Buckingham Palace has issued a statement today revealing King Charles, 75, has been diagnosed with a form of cancer.

While the type of cancer has not been revealed, it is not prostate cancer. However, it was found during his recent hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate.

The full statement reads: "During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

"The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."

Prince Harry to visit his father

The King informed his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, personally about the diagnosis, and Harry will be travelling to the UK from his home in the US to visit his father soon.

"The Duke did speak with his father about his diagnosis. He will be travelling to the UK to see His Majesty in the coming days," a source told The Sun.

With Charles unable to do public-facing duties, his 'counsellors of state' can be appointed to stand in for His Majesty.

At the moment, this group consists of Queen Camilla, Prince William, the Princess Royal, and Prince Edward.

Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, have also paused official duties while she recovers from a recent abdominal surgery, which will see her unable to return to public duties until around Easter. The Prince of Wales, however, is expected to return to duties this week.
