The current cost of living crisis has certainly made many of us rethink what we put in our shopping trolleys, from everyday groceries to cleaning products. However, professional cleaner Lydia Mason says cleaning doesn't have to be costly, especially if you know where to shop and what works.

Having owned her cleaning business, Rockstar Cleaning Crew, for five years, Mason said her first stop for cleaning products is always budget retailer Aldi.

“The Pro Performance range from Aldi is designed to meet everyone's budget, and they deliver outstanding cleaning performance,” she told Yahoo Lifestyle.

“As a professional cleaner, I find that other supermarket products can often be too harsh and leave me gasping for air. In contrast, the Aldi range is gentle on my airways, making it a reliable and safe choice.”

Mason’s TikTok page is loaded with cleaning hacks and tricks using the Aldi range, with a few products making her must-have cleaning list.

She says she can't work without three, using them to clean her and her clients’ homes.

The first is the store’s $2.29 Protect N Clean Disinfectant, which comes in three different scents: Pine, Eucalyptus or Lavender. This product is a top pick because it’s versatile and can be used extensively throughout the home.

“Its multi-use capability makes it an essential item in my cleaning regime. When diluted, it can be applied to various areas around the home, from disinfecting touch points, sinks, and countertops in the kitchen to adding a small drop in the mop bucket for mopping floors and cleaning walls,” Mason said.

According to the Aldi website, it can be used to clean toilets, sinks, floors, rubbish bins, benches, toys, cutting boards, drains and toilet brushes. Compared to the $2.50 Coles Ultra branded disinfectant and Woolworths Strike Pro it’s also the cheapest option.

The Pro Performance Citrus and Baking Soda Kitchen Degreaser for $1.89 gets another top vote from Mason, who refers to this kitchen cleaning spray as a “cleaning champion” product.

“After testing numerous commercial degreasers, this one has proven to be the most effective. It not only disinfects but also breaks down heavy grease and grime effortlessly, without the need for excessive rinsing,” she said.

“I particularly love using it on my stovetop and backsplash, where cooking splatters are common. A few minutes of letting the product sit, followed by a quick wipe with a damp cloth, easily removes any oil or grease build-up.”

Third on her list is the $2.19 Power Force Gel Toilet Cleaner. And yes, cleaning the toilet isn’t exactly everyone’s favourite job. Mason says this gel makes it “significantly easier”.

“It’s exceptional value and outperforms many other toilet gel cleaners on the market,” she says.

“What I appreciate most is that it is free from ammonia and chlorine, ingredients that can be harsh on the body.”

The secret to this product working so well is the invisible anti-stain barrier that stops stains from building up between uses.

In the latest Canstar Blue survey of top-rated floor cleaners, Aussies voted Aldi’s Power Force as the top pick.

“I want to give a good wrap to this Aldi product. I have used it for some months now and find it very good when cleaning stained oven glass,” one person shared.

“A recommended product at a great price.”

Others shared they used it across the entire house, including the bathroom, kitchen benchtops, ovens, and glass windows.

“I love this one too. It beats the more expensive brands hands down,” one person wrote, with another adding: “This product is fantastic. Can buy 4 bottles of this to 1 of the more expensive ones.”
