Les Films d’Ici, France Télévisions Board ‘Who We Are’ (EXCLUSIVE)
One of France’s foremost doc feature producers, Paris-based Les Films d’ici, has boarded “Who We Are” (“Qui som”).
A buzz title at Berlin’s Spain in Focus showcase, “Who We Are” is being presented by its Spanish producers Materia Cinema, which co-financed Ira Sachs’ Sundance/Berlin player “Peter Hujar’s Day,” and Avalon, behind Berlin 2022 Golden Bear winner “Alcarràs.”

Les Films d’ici also co-produces out of France, while Spain’s Foundation La Caixa serves as an associate producer.
Directed by Salvador Sunyer, “Who We Are” turns on couple Camille Decourtye and Blaï Mateu Trias, heads of Baro d’evel, a celebrated French performing arts company. When the Festival d’Avignon commissions a new piece from them, they feel the need to find a renewed sense to their existence as artists, partners and parents.
Currently in post-production, “Who We Are” is set for delivery in the second or third quarter of 2025. It is written by Sunyer and Lola Mayo (“Andrea’s Love,” “The Dead Man and Being Happy”). Avalon will distribute theatrically in Spain, Caixaforum+ has VOD rights in Spain and Portugal and France Télévisions will broadcast in France.
A Pompeu Fabra U and ESCAC alum who worked at Barcelona’s Nanouk Films over 2012-21, Sunyer has been working with Baro d’evel for 10 years, directing a short on the troupe, “The Missing Part,” in 2015.
He has actively followed them during the past two years, shooting hundreds of hours of their day-to-day life and rehearsals, while preparing their new show for Avignon, the critically acclaimed “Qui som.”
“Salvador Sunyer blends cinema and performing arts into a poetic, unique language, capturing this ‘tribe’ in their endeavour to bring meaning to both art and life,” noted Avalon’s Emilia Fort and Materia Cinema’s Nadine Rothschild and Inés Massa.
