'Hot demand': Lego sales through the roof

It’s clear Lego Masters is a hit with many, especially families, and combine that with people looking for things to keep occupied while remaining in isolation at home, and it’s no surprise that Lego sales have seen a record spike.

eBay for example saw its biggest spike in Lego sales of the year during Sunday night’s premiere episode of Lego Masters - up a whopping 92 per cent week on week.

The majority of Lego fans flocked to eBay between 8-9pm that night which saw more than three Lego items sold every single minute.

And in the 24 hours following the show, Aussies spent a whopping $150,000 on Lego alone.

eBay Australia’s Sophie Onikul said eBay is the “cultural barometer of Aussie buying behaviour”.

“Right now Lego is in hot demand as people look for ways to beat the boredom of staying at home,” Sophie said.

“And it’s not just kids, with more adults than ever getting involved. Lego Masters is further fuelling this trend and inspiring people to get creative at a time when they need it most.”

Pop culture has also been leading the Lego sales on eBay over the past month with Star Wars, Harry Potter, Batman, Disney, and Avengers amongst the most popular.

Even host of Lego Masters Hamish Blake admitted this week his obsession gone ‘so deep’ it has him 'stealing' Lego from set.

“This was either going to go one of two ways – I was either going to get sick of Lego, or I would go deep. And I’ve gone deep,” Hamish told Yahoo Lifestyle, admitting the show has definitely fuelled the fire.

“I steal a lot from the show – I should be honest about that.

“I realised the easiest thing to steal is the mini-figures off the giant walls we’ve got in The Brick Pit. That became quite easy, and I did steal a lot of Star Wars mini figures.”
