The weather is warming up, which means we’ll soon be trading our cozy indoor meals for al fresco dining and sunshine-filled coffee runs. Whether you’re picnicking in the park, or heading out on a road trip, you’ll need a snack that can satisfy cravings and complement the rest of your spread. And what better than salty, crunchy, potato chips?

Chips are the ultimate on-the-go lunch companion and a versatile crowd pleaser that rises to any occasion. Brands like Lay’s make it easy to find a flavor you love and plenty of texture options to keep your snack drawer exciting. In January, Lay’s brought All Dressed chips to the U.S. for the first time, after fans spent years requesting the international favorite. And even more recently, the brand's parent company, Pepsico Foods, launched multiple products including Quaker Rice Crisps Jalapeño Cheddar, Funyuns Sour Cream & Funyuns, and new flavors of Rold Gold Selects.

Now, for the first time in North America, Lay's is adding a sweet potato-based chip to the lineup.

Lay’s Launches Poppables Sweet Potato Sea Salt

Lay’s Poppables Sweet Potato Sea Salt snacks have landed on shelves. For those unfamiliar, the Poppables line debuted in 2017 with Poppables Sea Salt and Poppables White Cheddar. The waffle-patterned chips offer fans a multidimensional, airy alternative to traditional thin and crispy potato chips. Lay’s Poppables Sweet Potato Sea Salt snacks are made with real sweet potatoes and don’t include any artificial flavors or colors.

Just the other day, I spotted them in stores and decided to swap out my afternoon PopCorners for the find. I was most impressed with the texture of Poppables. It made me feel nostalgic for 3D Doritos, a now-discontinued product of the ‘90s. As for taste, I found the new snack balanced in flavor. People who like sweet potato products will appreciate the taste, but because it’s subtle, those who don’t typically like sweet potatoes could enjoy them as well—it’s the best of both worlds.

The bag lists sweet potatoes as the third ingredient, following potato starch and vegetable oil, which is likely the reason they are so crisp and lack an overbearing sweet flavor. Overall, the orange-hued snack would complement a variety of sandwiches and hold its own at any party.

Lay’s Poppables Sweet Potato Sea Salt snacks are now available in major retailers nationwide. And be sure to keep an eye out for Lay’s other new releases including: Ruffles Smokehouse BBQ and Honey BBQ SunChips.
