Laura Henshaw is here to tell you cardio is about more than just running
When it's cold and dark outside we know the last thing you may want to do is have to rug up in five layers to head out for a walk or run. But there are so many other ways to get your fix of cardio that don't involve pounding the pavement.
Keep It Cleaner’s co-founder Laura Henshaw is here to share some of her favourite types of cardio workouts, ahead of her four-week Cardio Workout Challenge exclusively with Yahoo Lifestyle.
"It’s no secret that I love cardio workouts that really get the heart pumping!
Like most of us, I can get a little bored doing the same exercise over and over, so I thought I would give you an insight into four completely different cardio exercises that I incorporate into my workout routine - that you can do at home, with no equipment needed.
Cardio Pilates
Cardio Pilates contains all the benefits of a strength Pilates class, with higher impact movements to elevate the heart rate, so get ready to sweat.
I was so excited to recently release Cardio Pilates to our KIC community, it works and challenges your entire body, boosts endorphins and revitalises your mind.
Strength and cardio all in one - it really is the best of both worlds.
HIIT
I love HIIT because it gets your heart rate up really quickly through short bursts of intense exercise.
In a 20 minute workout, you can expect to sweat it out for 45 seconds with a 15 second break, on repeat, completing movements such as squats, burpees, planks, push ups and skaters.
It’s such an energising way to start your day.
Boxing
Boxing works your entire body and strengthens your core like nothing else.
Plus, all of that punching, skipping and dodging requires so much energy, which means you’re getting a solid cardio workout too.
Running
I know this is an obvious answer but I couldn’t not include running, I just love it so much. To me, it’s like meditation, it helps me release stress, get outside and connect with nature.
Variety is critical for keeping things exciting - explore new routes, introduce hills (up and down), trails, grass, sand, track, whatever you have at your disposal."
