The Queen of Versailles is officially coming to Broadway.

Stephen Schwartz's new musical is currently in previews at Boston's Emerson Colonial Theatre ahead of an August 1 opening. On Monday, July 29, producers announced the musical will take its Broadway bow during the 2025-26 season.

“The entire Queen of Versailles company is having an incredible time building this new original American musical with the gracious and arts-loving audiences in Boston,” producers said in a statement. “We look forward to the journey ahead and bringing this story to Broadway in the 2025-26 season.”

No specific dates for the engagement were announced, nor was official casting. But the out-of-town tryout is currently starring Tony and Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth, as well as Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham.

Chenoweth is producing the musical too, through her production banner Diva Worldwide Entertainment. She's collaborating with Bill Damaschke and Seaview.

An adaptation of Lauren Greenfield’s award-winning 2012 documentary of the same name, the Queen of Versailles follows socialite Jacqueline “Jackie” Siegel and "Timeshare King" husband David Siegel's still-unfinished $100 million quest to build the biggest private home in America. Chenoweth plays Jackie and Abraham, David.

The project teams Chenoweth back together with Schwartz, whom she previously collaborated with in Wicked. The Oscar-winning songwriter is also the composer behind such beloved Broadway scores such as Pippin and Godspell, and has contributed lyrics to a number of popular films such as PocahontasThe Hunchback of Notre DameThe Prince of Egypt and Enchanted.

Celebrated director Michael Arden is directing the musical, which features a book by Lindsey Ferrentino.

It's currently scheduled to run in Boston through Aug. 25.

Like the documentary, the musical will explore "the true cost of fame, fortune, and family" through the eyes of Jackie and David, whose dreams begin to crumble — along with their lavish lifestyle — while building their grandiose mansion in Orlando, Florida with the Great Recession of 2008 looming.

"The American Dream is still under construction," a tagline for the musical reads in a trailer shared on social media.
