Kris: 'Why I left Dannii'

He left the South African jungle during Thursday night's episode, but Kris Smith didn't make his I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here exit without dropping one big bombshell - HE was the one who ended the Dannii Minogue romance in 2012.

Speaking to fellow celebrity campmate Steve Price, 38-year-old model Kris admitted protecting his young son Ethan from the pair's constant bickering factored in to his decision to part ways with the 45-year-old singer.

"It got to a point where Dannii - it wasn't working for anyone," the former rugby league player candidly confessed, admitting the split "ripped my heart out".

"We didn't wanna get in silly bickering arguments in front of Ethan. So the hardest thing I've had to do was leave.

"[Ethan]was very young but I didn't ever wanna see him in an environment where it's a little bit bitter or argumentative."

"All I ever wanted in life was to settle down with one woman and have kids with one woman," he continued, adding, "It absolutely ripped my heart out but it was for the best."

Kris and Dannii met during a holiday in Ibiza back in 2008.

It seemed to be a case of love at first sight, with the pair spending the night chatting before embarking on a holiday romance.

The couple ended up being together for four years, during which their son Ethan was born in 2010.

While in the jungle, Kris also opened up about life with the Minogue sisters, both Dannii and Kylie, emphasising they are as down to earth as they get.

"It was great but very surreal to see the circle that they live in. But when they're in the home environment they're just like everybody else," he said.

During Thursday night's episode of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here, Kris was eliminated along with Bachelor star Keira Maguire.

Following his eviction, the hunk told News Corp that his relationship status is "complicated".

“I am talking with my ex [Maddy]. We’ve had a couple of conversations about certain things,” he said, referring to model Maddy King.

“I’m still single, kind of, it is complicated.”

After having dated on and off for four-and-a-half years, Maddy and Kris confirmed their split in October.
