What is the plot of the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot?

Like the original, the reboot will follow a group of friends who are "terrorized by a stalker who knows about a gruesome incident from their past."

Have they started shooting the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot?

Yes. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who's married to Prinze and starred in the original (where the longtime couple met), posted a photo from set on Thanksgiving 2024, giving away the fact that filming had begin.

“You would think that being in my position, I know what rules are on sets when they say closed sets, you know,” she said on Live with Kelly and Mark. “So my husband’s starring in the movie, and it was Thanksgiving so I took our kids to Australia to go out there and visit him. And I was sitting on set, and I was like, ‘Oh what a great picture,’ and then I posted it."

“Then I found out that they hadn’t posted any pictures from the set yet — hadn’t announced they started filming," she continued. "Yeah … that was an ‘Oops! My bad!'”

Will Sarah Michelle Gellar be in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot?

No. Her character, beauty queen Helen Shivers, died in the original.

Will Jennifer Love Hewitt be in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot?

After months of speculation, Hewitt confirmed that she will indeed be reprising her role in the reboot.

“It's such a delicate thing because we're trying to deal with the 9-1-1 schedule and the movie schedule, so we're just trying to figure it out and make it happen," the Party of Five actress previously told Parade of the holdup.

"If I'm going to come back 27 years later, I don't want to just be in it for five seconds, like, I don't want it to just be like that thing that's like, 'Oh, well, there's the ghost of I Know What You Did past, here she is,'" she added. "So I want to be able to carve out time to really be in it for people and to have it matter. So we're working on it. We're so close.”

Will Freddie Prinze Jr. be in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot?

Yes. Despite describing his experience on the first movie as "miserable," he is returning to the franchise.

According to the '90s heartthrob, director Jim Gillespie never wanted to cast him in the movie in the first place (he wanted to hire Jeremy Sisto), and he took it out on the young actor.

“There was no passive aggressiveness — which I hate — he was very direct in the fact that, ‘I don’t want you in this movie,’" Prinze told Too Fab. "So when that’s your first job and you hear those words, it just wrecks you, man. It just wrecks you.”

The reboot will be directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
