Kmart shopper's birthday surprise hilariously ruined by balloon fail

Kmart is great for party decorations, but you may want to check what you've bought before it's time to use them.

The presents are wrapped, the cake is decorated and before you can go to bed to dream of your child's reaction in the morning, you just have to blow up their birthday balloons and then everything will be ready.

That's just what one mum did before discovering a slight problem – one of the Kmart balloon letters was wrong. In the pack that was labelled "C" was actually the letter "B", which meant the best she could do was spell out "Luba" instead of her daughter's name, Luca.

Rather than get upset about it though, mum Amber had a laugh and shared it on her favourite Kmart group on Facebook.

"Go home Kmart, you’re drunk. It may have ruined my birthday set-up but it made my night," Amber posted on the Kmart Hacks & Decor Facebook page.

"OMG I laughed then had a coughing fit and was between choking, coughing and laughing. You made my night. Hope you still had a good time, sorry Kmart suppliers don't know their alphabet," one group member commented.

"Kmart needs to go back to school and learn their alphabet," another wrote.

Shoppers laugh at balloon mistake

The post garnered over 1,000 likes in just 24 hours.

"Her brother was in hysterics laughing. He's shouting out LUBA LUBA," Amber shared with the group in the comments, adding: "Yep don't wait til the night before when she's in bed and Kmarts are closed."

Others also shared their mishaps with celebratory decorations they had bought from the discount supermarket.

"Hahaha yes! I got a happy birthday bunting from Kmart a couple of years ago and it actually said happy bitday... still hung it. It was hilarious," one said.

"I bought Happy Birthday bunting that said Happy Dirthbay, I was annoyed but then it became funny to see if anyone noticed," another commented.

Despite the laugh her post received, the dodgy balloons were destined for the trash.

Birthday girl not amused

"Unfortunately I didn’t use them because as funny as myself and my partner found it, turns out six-year-old girls aren’t amused by a mix-up," Amber revealed to Yahoo Lifestyle.

"We ended up throwing them away because we couldn’t use them. She was still happy with her gifts and it was just for a gift set-up, not a party.

"We love Kmart. It’s just a shame I couldn't have it set up for my girl on her special golden birthday 6/6/16 turning 6."

And it was more than just the dates that are special, as Amber further explained.

Miracle baby

"Luca is an IVF baby born on 6/6/16," the mum of two from Perth says. "She also came out with six toes on each foot.

"She was named after our fertility doctor because Luca as a name is derived from the name Lucy – praise Dr Lucy Williams who made her."

Mum still a big Kmart fan

But the childcare worker was surprised at the number of likes she received after posting the photo. "I knew it would get a laugh which was my intention in posting it, not to have a go at Kmart.

"Kmart is like my children, in my eyes they can do no wrong. I love them unconditionally and I give them any extra cash I have lying around," she jokingly added.
