A Kmart shopper has sparked debate after sharing her Mother’s Day hamper idea. TikToker SJ, who shares lifestyle content on social media, showed followers how she spent $78.25 at the budget retailer.

She began by grabbing an Anko Cream Knitted Basket for $10, before adding other items from the store. The homeware included a $3.50 floral mug that said “Best Mum Ever” on it, a $15 Anko floral tumbler, a cheap $7 slow cooker recipe book with over 200 recipes inside, a $5 set of two Wave Taper Candle Holders and three Tonal Taper Candles at $5.

Next, she picked up a floral journal for $5, a glittery pen for $3.25, coconut and vanilla bath salts for $4.50, an $8 bamboo body massager, an Oxx Jelly Bear and low Bright face masks for $3 each and fluffy home socks for $6.

“Mother’s Day Hamper idea – total spend $78.25. Have you got your Mother’s Day Present sorted?” she wrote in the caption. “What gift did you buy your mum or mother figure?”

Her TikTok was viewed over 227,000 times, but most people slammed the “useless” gift idea.

“Just a bottle of wine and a sleep in please. As a mum, we don’t want these,” one person wrote.

“My mum would chuck it for sure hahaha,” another agreed.

“I would love instead of a cute basket maybe a break from the kids and maybe be able to go and have a bath or shower on my own, now that is a Mother’s Day gift,” a third remarked.

“My mum is so fussy she won’t accept or use any of this, she’ll just tell me she doesn’t like it and tell me to keep it,” another added.

Another Kmart shopper also pointed out that with the current cost of living crisis, the cost of this basket is actually quite steep. “I’m sorry that’s nearly $80. Who has money to spend $80 on Mother’s Day, especially us mums?” they asked.

However, a few TikTokers were excited by the DIY hamper idea.

“I love doing these,” one person commented.

“This is adorable but I strive to be a minimalist one day. If I got given all this stuff I don’t know what I’d do with it,” another admitted.

“I’m [going to] do this for my sister-in-law, thanks for the idea. I wasn’t sure what to get! I’ll get something different for my mum,” a third wrote.

“[My] mum would love this with some wine!” another chimed in.
