Yahoo Lifestyle Kim Kardashian Finally Wore Princess Diana’s Amethyst Cross Necklace That She Bought Last Year
Kim Kardashian paid a pretty penny to snag a piece of Princess Diana’s jewelry, and now she has finally taken the prized accessory for a spin.
At the glitzy 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles last night, the reality TV star stepped out sporting a plunging, form-fitting white Gucci gown and the Attallah cross pendant that was famously worn by the late royal, CNN reported. The origin of the amethyst and diamond-encrusted necklace dates back to the 1920s, when court jeweler Garrard created it. Then, in the ’80s, Naim Attallah purchased the piece, which measures 5.4 inches by 3.7 inches. The late businessman and writer was a close friend of Diana’s and frequently lent her the pendant, including the time she wore it to a 1987 British charity gala.

While the Princess of Wales paired the cross with a velvet purple floor-length dress by Catherine Walker, Kardashian opted to marry the 5.25-carat necklace with pearl chokers and an ivory shawl cape. The 44-year-old Skims founder bought the piece last year at a Sotheby’s auction in London. The pendant went under the hammer during the Royal and Noble collection sale and fetched a whopping £163,800 (about $200,000), which was more than double its pre-auction estimate.
“This is a bold piece of jewelry by its size, color, and style which cannot fail to make a vibrant statement, whether it be of faith or fashion – or indeed both,” Kristian Spofforth, head of jewelry at Sotheby’s in London, said in a press release in 2023. “We are delighted that this piece has found a new lease of life within the hands of another globally famous name.”
This isn’t the first time Kardashian has dipped into the fashion archives, either. Most notably, she wore Marilyn Monroe’s historic gown to the 2022 Met Gala despite criticism from museum conservators. The sparkling Jean Louis dress was the same one that Monroe had on when she sang Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy. Then, this past summer, the KKW Beauty founder was spotted wearing a Janet Jackson ensemble to the singer’s concert in Thousand Palms. The two-piece outfit was from the pop star’s 1993 If music video and cost Kardashian a cool $25,000. And as for more recent accessories, Kardashian was seen rocking a Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Mini Frosted last week.
