Kelly Ripa Teases Her Skinny Christmas Tree Is on ‘Treezempic’ After First ‘Giant’ Tree Wouldn’t Fit in House
Ripa said her first tree was like a scene out of 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation' while unveiling her second tree on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’ on Monday
Kelly Ripa is unveiling her Christmas tree — and it looks a little different this year!
The Live with Kelly and Mark host, 54, revealed the hilarious story behind the installation of her holiday centerpiece alongside her co-host and husband Mark Consuelos, 53, on Monday, Dec. 9,
“We had two trees this year. One arrived and it was too big for us to fit in our house," she shared. "The Christmas tree is a big deal for me every year, it’s what I look forward to. And when the tree arrived, and they cut it open, it was like a scene out of [National Lampoon's Christmas] Vacation. The entire tree became [huge] It was like a bloomin’ onion.”
She explained that the tree “was a giant” and stood “three feet taller” than the room's ceiling height would allow, adding that “it was the width of the room, so the entire room became the tree.”
“So we got what I like to call Treezempic, or Pinejaro. She’s skinny, don’t skinny-shame her. She’s sensitive about it. She’s been exercising every day. She’s beautiful," Ripa continues. "But when I tell you, hanging ornaments on this tree… even the lightest ornament and the branches are like, ‘I can’t.’”
Consuelos chimes in, “Yeah, I heard terms like, ‘These branches are flaccid.’” Agreeing with her husband, Ripa notes that “most of the ornaments are inside the tree.”
While it took some time getting used to their smaller tree at first, Consuelos says, “I think it’s great” because they still have enough space to actually lounge in the room.
Ripa adds, “I’ve never been able to get around to the backside of the tree. It’s usually under-decorated because I just can’t get back there. But now, it’s fully dressed.”
“And we spent some time there this weekend,” Consuelos says. “We lit the fireplace. The fireplace was roaring. It was nice.”
Ripa also shared a look at her Christmas tree in an Instagram post on Dec. 8, along with the caption: “Behold the lady 🎄even the trees are skinny this year #treezempic?”
It’s noticeably smaller than the couple’s tree from last year, which can be seen covering the entire middle window and brushing the ceiling in an Instagram post shared on Dec. 1, 2023.
Ripa previously shared that she and Consuelos decorate their Christmas tree with their 33-year-old ornament collection every year. The longtime couple tied the knot in May 1996 and share three children together — Michael, 27, Lola, 23, and Joaquin, 21.
The Live Wire author also shared a look at the decorations outside of her New York City home, which is currently undergoing construction, and revealed that she and her husband were not on the same page about one specific piece of decor.
“A lot of people wanted to see the front of the house and how I decorated the construction site,” Ripa said during the episode. “And the construction site people are so accommodating and tolerating of me.”
She continues, “I got this big snowman and Mark did not want the snowman at all so I asked the men at the construction site, ‘Can we put the snowman here?’ And they were like, ‘Whatever floats your boat!’ Which I was like, ‘Oh my God, how do I get Mark to say that to me?’”
Ripa hilariously shared how the “little tiny package” has become a hotspot for the neighborhood dogs.
“Cute, right? Festive. And look, see the little tiny package? That’s where the dogs usually pee,” she says. “Not ours, other people’s. And now we’ve given them something to pee on. Isn’t that nice? Now they’ve got a pee present. Isn’t it cute? And we compromised!”
