Kate Middleton's major wedding faux pas
Never wear cream, ivory or any other shade in the ‘white’ family if you’re a guest at a wedding: it’s the one rule you should never break, but Kate Middleton has done it at the nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The 36-year-old, who gave birth to her third child, Prince Louis, mere weeks ago, arrived in a cream-coloured dress with a matching white coat and an angled fascinator.
Holding hands with Princess Charlotte and another flower girl, Kate beamed from ear-to-ear as she made her way up the steps of St George’s Church in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
However, wearing white to a wedding is seen by many as being a massive outfit faux pas.
Usually, it appears like the guest is trying to upstage the bride, who traditionally wears white.
“Out of respect to the bride and the legacy of tradition, go with another colour,” Lindsey Sachs, wedding planner and owner of COLLECTIVE/by Sachs told Martha Stewart Weddings.
“Whether you know the bride’s stance on this topic or not, you can’t go wrong by playing it safe.
“By not wearing white, you won’t end up the topic of conversation among other curious guests and, most importantly, your wardrobe choice won’t detract from the bride who deserves to be honored on her wedding day as the leading lady in white.”
The wedding marks the Duchess of Cambridge’s first public appearance since the birth of her third child, Prince Louis Arthur Charles, less than a month ago on April 23rd.
And while many were hoping for a glimpse of the newly-born prince, the youngster is sadly not in attendance at the ceremony.
With the crowds considered to be too much for a baby, Louis is believed to be at home in the care of family’s nanny.
On the other hand, Louis’ older siblings Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, three, are taking on the very important roles of pageboy and flower girl for their Uncle Harry.
It’s not the first wedding ceremony the little royals have been involved in either.
This time last year, the little ones were performing similar roles at their aunt Pippa Middleton’s wedding, only mum Kate had a fair bit of work to do to keep them in line.
And as Kate has no official part in the bridal party, her unofficial role today is to keep an eye on the kids while their dad fulfils his best man duties.
She did an excellent job at keeping all the little tykes in line at Pippa’s wedding, where she was seen using the tried and tested royal technique to stop a tantrum in its tracks.
Crouching down to the children’s level and giving them her whole and undivided attention, Kate was able to defuse a potentially hairy situation with George, who at one stage looked on the point of a meltdown.
