Ever wondered what your favourite royals carry in their makeup bags?
It just so happens that Kate Middleton accidentally let us all in on her beauty secrets with a flash of her new favourite lip gloss while attending Day 2 of Wimbledon in July.
While sitting courtside, the Duchess of Cambridge gave us a peek into her beauty routine when she pulled out her Clarins Light Natural Lip Perfector.
Described as a “softly textured lip gel with a deliciously sweet scent and 3D shimmer,” this subtle gloss creates a perfectly hydrated pout, and adds a sheer wash of colour to your lips.
The Duchess of Cambridge is one of many fans of this lightweight lippie, which has hundreds of five-star reviews, for adding shine and colour without a sticky feel.
“I love this instant light natural lip perfector,” writes one reviewer. “It goes on so smoothly and gives the perfect amount of colour. I like to use it when I want some colour on my lips but don’t want anything too dramatic.”
Kate’s exact shade of Rose Shimmer is still available to shop now, and rings in at just $32.
With The Duchess’ lip gloss reveal, we got to thinking about the other beauty picks that have received the royal seal of approval over the years, ranging from Princess Diana’s faves to Meghan Markle’s beauty tricks.
Read on to see the affordable beauty buys that the royals are loving, all at prices under $40.
Kate Middleton’s favourite gloss provides a smooth and shiny finish that can be worn on its own or layered over your favourite lipstick.
Nivea Q10 Rich Firming Lotion - $9.99
One of Meghan Markle’s most affordable skincare products is this hydrating drugstore lotion that can be yours for $9.99. “It’s honestly my favourite lotion on the market,” she shared in an interview with Beauty Banter. “It’s so affordable, and makes my skin look and feel amazing. I would buy a case of this at a time if I could find it.”
Essie Ballet Slippers - $14.95
This pale pink colour is rumoured to be the Queen’s only approved shade of nail polish thanks to its nude tone and classic appeal. She’s actually been a fan of the $14.95 shade since 1989, and has even encouraged her granddaughters-in-law Kate and Meghan to wear it too.
Princess Eugenie is considered a working royal, and has a regular 9-5 rather than full-time royal engagements. Of her on-the-go beauty routine, she told Harper’s BAZAAR in 2016, “I do my makeup in the car. I'm really good at doing it on the move!” Her secret to full lashes? This multitasking mascara that curls, separates, boosts volume, and lengthens lashes.
Bobbi Brown Lipstick - $48.50
Best known for adding colour to Kate Middleton’s bridal wedding look, this Bobbi Brown lipstick in Sandwash Pink provides full coverage with a semi-matte finish that’s enriched with vitamins C and E.
To fend off breakouts and treat minor cuts and scrapes, the Duchess of Sussex reaches for this inexpensive essential oil. "It's not the most glamorous thing, but if you get a cut, a mosquito bite, a small breakout, no matter what it is, it's my little cure-all," Meghan previously told Allure.
Princess Diana’s early signature look may have been a beauty ‘don’t’ according to her makeup artist Mary Greenwell, but we’ll always have the photos to fondly look back on. Her go-to was a navy shade of Elizabeth Arden’s Kohl liner, similar to today’s Beautiful Color Precision Glide liner in Sapphire.
