Kate Middleton May Be Making Her Red Carpet Comeback Next Month
She and Prince William have "close ties" to the awards show.
Now that the holidays are over and January is in full swing, the world is waiting for Kate Middleton’s next royal appearance. The Princess of Wales is still easing into the swing of royal duties and prioritizing a full recovery after finishing chemotherapy last fall, but she could be walking the red carpet–and giving royal watchers a glamorous style moment–for an event in February. According to a source, both Kate and Prince William have “close ties” to the BAFTA Film Awards and could prioritize a joint couple’s moment at the star-studded show.
Kate last stepped out at the BAFTAs with a dapper, black tuxedo-clad William in 2023. The Princess of Wales exuded goddess energy in an ethereal white one-shoulder Alexander McQueen gown, long black opera gloves, and statement gold floral earrings that dangled past her collarbones–a far cry from the vintage-inspired, country chic outfits she’s been sporting in recent months.
While the couple didn’t step out at the award ceremony last year amid Kate’s battle with cancer, it’s become somewhat of an annual tradition for the Waleses: They first attended the BAFTAs in 2017, followed by appearances in 2018, 2019, 2020, and then 2023. Considering they didn’t attend the BAFTAs in 2022 due to scheduling issues, insiders reportedly believe there’s a possibility they’ll attend this year if all things align.
According to Express, the committee chair, Anna Higgs, is “hopeful” Kate will be in attendance at the Royal Festival Hall event on February 16–and the team is “pulling out all the stops” to make it happen.
"BAFTA has close ties with William and Kate and is pulling out all the stops to try to secure Kate's presence at this year's awards,” insiders reportedly told The DailyMail. “It sent her warmest wishes when she revealed her cancer diagnosis and hopes she will appear alongside William in what will be her big showbiz return since she's been in recovery."
However, there’s also the chance that the princess will skip out on the A-list event to cut down on her royal engagements this year. The Daily Mail's royal correspondent Rebecca English recently cited insiders when saying that Kate will not be taking on her pre-diagnosis schedule when she increases her public-facing duties in 2025.
"There is no huge reset button that's going to be hit in January," insiders reportedly told English. "What we will actually see is a slow continuation of the princess balancing her recovery and her public-facing duties."
