Kate Middleton joined husband Prince William for her latest public outing, as the Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his wife Sheikha Jawaher to London for their state visit to the U.K. on Tuesday. The occasion marks the Princess of Wales’ most recent public engagement since completing her treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer last September.

For the occasion, Kate favored the popular monochrome trend seen on several red carpets throughout 2024 and a signature style of her royal wardrobe. The Princess of Wales wore a bespoke burgundy coat courtesy of Alexander McQueen. The coat featured sinuous lapels contrasted by sharp shoulders.

The coat also included angular pockets and two buttons. Along with the burgundy coat, Kate wore a burgundy felt beret courtesy of Sahar Millinery. She further coordinated the burgundy ensemble with boots by Gianvito Rossi.

The Princess of Wales’ sartorial statement was complete with a pair of gloves by Cornelia James and a small Chanel handbag. As for her accessories, Kate wore the Japanese pearl choker, which was crafted by Garrard and previously belonged to Queen Elizabeth II, and matched the choker with a pair of Bahrain pearl drop earrings.

Over the course of the last several weeks, Kate has added a few public engagements to her schedule. The Princess of Wales made her return to public engagements last October, wearing another coat courtesy of Alexander McQueen — a go-to designer for the British royal family member — while visiting the Southport Community Centre.

On Nov. 8, Kate joined prominent members of the British royal family for Remembrance Day services, wearing a Catherine Walker look in a shade of black with structured, military-like elements. Kate used the occasion to also pay tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

Alexander McQueen has long been one of Kate’s preferred designers for several of her public royal engagements. The Princess of Wales’ relationship with the label extends more than 10 years, dating back to the wedding gown she wore in 2011, designed by the then-creative director of Alexander McQueen Sarah Burton. Between her proclivity for monochrome dressing and her favorite designer, Kate revitalized signature elements of her royal wardrobe with her public appearance on Tuesday.
