After over a decade of marriage, Kate Middleton and Prince William are “reconnecting and closer than ever” after the princess’s battle with cancer last year. The Prince and Princess of Wales have slowly started sprinkling some rare public displays of affection into their official engagements and social media posts, giving royal watchers a glimpse at their relationship behind closed doors. Now, a resurfaced video from 2006 shows a pre-royal Kate having a behind-the-scenes total fangirl moment over Prince William in their early dating days—and it’s so adorable.

In the December 15, 2006 video clip from ITV News, the then 24-year-old Kate could be seen appreciatively checking out her boyfriend as he stepped out at his passing out parade–a ceremony for officer cadets who’d completed a 44-week military course–to celebrate him joining the Household Cavalry Blues and Royals.

Kate could be seen giggling and whispering something to William’s friend James Meade as she got a glimpse of the prince walking in the parade, and thanks to a lip reader for the news outlet, royal watchers now know exactly what she thought of William’s outfit that day.

“I love the uniform. It’s so, so sexy,” she reportedly told Meade as the pair laughed together in the stands.

All eyes were on the recent University of St. Andrews graduate–who attended the ceremony with her parents Carole and Michael Middleton–as it was her very first official appearance with the royal family. Kate quickly drew comparisons to the late Princess Diana in her black Philip Treacy hat and a bright red coat dress, which looked similar to the pairing that her late mother-in-law wore to Sandringham on Christmas Day in 1993.

Since then, Kate has stepped out in countless Princess Diana-coded outfits and the couple have gotten a little more comfortable showing PDA in recent years–perhaps thanks to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's "very demonstrative" displays.

Royal photographer Karwai Tang recently told Us Weekly, “I think with Harry and Meghan being in the royal family for those few years, it’s sort of relaxed a lot of the other members, because every now and again you see Kate and William, not hold hands, but like a hand on the back or on the knee.”

While Kate hasn't publicly commented on William's outfits recently, she recently had a similarly spicy response to her husband’s new stubble (despite the fact that Princess Charlotte apparently isn’t a fan) during her Remembrance Sunday appearance with the Duchess of Edinburgh.

“I find it quite rousing,” Kate cheekily told Sophie when asked if she liked William's beard as the pair hung out on the Foreign Office balcony, Nicola Hickling, a professional lip reader, told The Sun at the time.
