Kate Middleton Breaks Her Silence About Missing Trooping the Colour Event

As Kate Middleton privately undergoes chemotherapy treatment following her cancer diagnosis, she has skipped many annual public appearances. The latest major event is Trooping the Colour. And the Princess of Wales recently broke her silence about missing it.

The event is a birthday celebration of the reigning monarch that includes a parade, music, a 41-gun salute and, of course, the royal family gathering on Buckingham Palace's balcony for the Royal Air Force flyover.

This year, the Irish Guards will lead the parade with Middleton as the honorary colonel—and Princess of Wales sent a letter of apology for missing the salute at their rehearsal.

On Saturday, June 8, the Irish Guards shared a photo of Middleton's letter in a post on X (formerly Twitter). She began the apology by sharing how "proud I am of the entire regiment ahead of the Colonel's Review and Trooping of the Colour."

"I appreciate everyone trooping this year has been practicing for months, and dedicating many hours to ensuring their uniforms and drill are immaculate," she explained.

Middleton continued: "Being your colonel remains a great honor and I am very sorry that I'm unable to take the salute at this year's Colonel's Review. Please pass my apologies to the whole Regiment, however I do hope that I am able to represent you all once again very soon. Please send my very best wishes and good luck to all involved."

In response, the Irish Guards wrote via X that they were "deeply touched to receive a letter from our Colonel, Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Wales this morning."

They added: "We continue to wish Her Royal Highness well in her recovery and send Her our very best wishes."

Trooping the Colour will take place on Saturday, June 15.
