Kate Beckinsale Was Gifted Her Late Father's Leather Jacket for Her Birthday: 'I Sobbed'

Kate Beckinsale received a sentimental birthday gift.

Beckinsale, who turned 51 on July 26, shared a series of photos of herself posing in a leather jacket on Instagram on Friday, August 2. In a caption she revealed that her godfather, actor David Bradley, gifted her her late father Richard Beckinsale's old leather jacket.

"Ah my god I sobbed . @davidjohnbradley1, my godfather and my dad’s best friend gave me the most special birthday present I could have dreamed of," Beckinsale wrote in a caption to the post. "My heart hurts from being so full. That this dear friend loved and cherished his best mate’s jacket for 45 years and then gave it to me."

Beckinsale's post included a throwback video and footage of her with her father during a television appearance prior to Richard's death in 1979, in which he appears to be wearing the same jacket. "I remember the feeling of being lifted up in his arms as he was wearing it," she added in her caption. "Bless you Dave. And thank you thank you thank you 🤍"

The Underworld actress also shared a note that Bradley, 82, wrote along with the present: "Dear Kate, many years ago Jude gave me this jacket of Richard's as it was always my favorite. I have loved it and worn it many times, but now I feel it should go back to you. Sending you all our love on your birthday."

Kate's father Richard was an English actor who died in 1979 at age 31 due to a heart attack. Her mother, Judy Loe, later remarried television director Roy Battersby, who died at 87 back in January. Richard's leather jacket was not the only birthday gift connected to her father Kate received this year; on July 26, she shared on Instagram that her mother Loe, 77, "gave me my dad's jumper which she's kept carefully all these years and made me sob."

On July 6, Kate celebrated Richard on what would have marked his 77th birthday with a social media tribute filled with black-and-white photos of the family together and an image of Richard in his 1973 film The Lovers!

"Happy birthday Daddy," she simply wrote in a caption to that post.
