Karlie Kloss's swipe at Ivanka and Kushner amid Capitol riot

As chaotic scenes unfold at the US Capitol everyone from former presidents to pop stars have been weighing in on social media, almost unanimously condemning the chaotic riots but one star’s comments were always going to divide both sides.

Supermodel Karlie Kloss is one of the world’s most famous faces and is also attached to the Kushner family through her marriage to Joshua Kushner, but has a largely liberal fan and friendship base.

Joshua is the brother of Jared, a senior White House advisor and the husband of Ivanka Trump, both of whom were integral members of the Trump administration.

In the wake of the riots, Karlie took to Twitter like so many with a strong message denouncing the violent protests that disrupted the Senate.

“Accepting the results of a legitimate democratic election is patriotic,” she wrote. “Refusing to do so and inciting violence is anti-American.”

Karlie’s comment flies in the face of a now-deleted tweet sent by Ivanka Trump in which she called rioters in the US Capitol ‘American patriots’ while calling for an end to the violence.

Plenty of Twitter users didn’t shy from pointing out the model’s ties to the Kushner family.

“Tell your bother in law and sister in law,” a user wrote.

“I’ve tried,” Karlie responded in an uncharacteristically frank admission.

The comment unsurprisingly caused outrage online, with some slamming the model for joining the family, others pointing out we can’t choose what our relative choose to do.

“I’m sorry, I just can’t with you,” one user wrote. “You married into that horrific family. I’m sure you mean well, but you’re a part of it by association and choice.”

“As somebody who has a lot of family that support Trump, I can't blame Karlie for this,” another responded. “She can talk and talk and talk to Ivanka and Jared and it won't matter.”

Celebrities react to Capitol riots

Karlie’s controversial comments come as fellow famous faces, including Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness, actor Kerry Washington and singer Pink, also had their say on the unfolding chaos.

JLo shared a post by Good Morning America which featured a quote from president-elect Joe Biden who called for an end to the “disorder” and “chaos.”

Queer Eye’s Johnathon Van Ness tweeted, “So when right wing people violently storm the Capitol it’s ok?” and called for Trump to be impeached, while Little Fires Everywhere actor Kerry Washington shared a post by the American Civil Liberties Union to her Instagram Stories.
