Kaley Cuoco Fans, Get a First Look at 'Based on a True Story' Season 2
This story contains spoilers for Based on a True Story season 1.
Who's ready to dive back into the world of comedy and podcasts, with a bit of true crime mixed in?
Based on a True Story is almost officially back on the air, with season 2 set to premiere on Thursday, November 21, 2024 on Peacock. While fans already know the show is full of twists and turns, it's no surprise that the complicated dynamic between Ava Bartlett (Kaley Cuoco), her husband Nathan Bartlett (Chris Messina) and serial killer-turned-podcast co-host Matt Pierce (Tom Bateman) certainly left people ready to see what happens next.
Well, in Good Housekeeping's exclusive clip ahead of the premiere episode (titled "Liquid Gold"), viewers can get a first look at how the three are holding up after last season saw Ava and Nathan seemingly set up to look like they were the ones who killed Ruby Gale (Priscilla Quintana) — and then burying her at Nathan's country club to avoid suspicion.
As Nathan and Matt are outside in a hot tub, folks see the two just chilling before Nathan's phone rings. When he picks up the FaceTime, it's Ava (who's at home in their baby's nursery) looking for an update on how his meeting with Ava's sister Tory (Liana Liberato) went.
"Hey babe. I can't really talk right now. I'm just in the middle of things — what's going on?" Nathan tells Ava as Matt sits alongside him in the jacuzzi.
"Yeah, well I kinda need an update, like now,"Ava replies in frustration.
As Nathan tries to convince Ava that he's on his way to meet up with Tory, Ava realizes that Nathan is not where he says he is. While trying to get an answer about his whereabouts, Ava decides to share a piece of information about Ruby's husband Simon (Aaron Staton) that certainly leaves Nathan surprised.
"Listen, did you know that Simon is out on bail?" Ava asks Nathan.
"He is?" Matt responds while overhearing the conversation.
"Is that Matt? Hey, turn the phone over — I wanna see him," Ava reacts. "Nathan, let me talk to Matt right now!"
Even though Ava is having full-fledged worries about Simon, Nathan decides he will be the one to handle everything. But as for when he'll try to get things settled, well... it will come after his midday soak.
"Ava, I'm handling the situation," he finally adds before hanging up. "I'll deal with the Simon issue when I get back."
With the new season of Based on a True Story picking up a few months after the events of season 1 and that massive cliffhanger, fans should expect some unique changes along the way. Namely, Ava and Nathan now have to balance their crime investigations with first-time parenthood. But will Matt clue Nathan in on what truly happened to Ruby? We'll just have to tune in and see.
If this sneak peek doesn't have us ready to watch Based on a True Story season 2, we don't know what does!
