Josh Gad Explains Why “Frozen 3” Won't Be Released Until 2027: 'No One Wants to Rush This'
"We want to give audiences something that is worth the years of waiting and years of anticipation," the actor revealed in a recent podcast interview
Frozen 3 may not be coming out until Thanksgiving 2027 — but according to Josh Gad, it will be well worth the wait.
While appearing on the Jan. 16 episode of The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw podcast on SiriusXM, Gad — who voices the magical talking snowman, Olaf, in the hit animated films — shared that he can’t reveal much about the upcoming third installment.
"Anything that I have seen or know I will have been sworn to secrecy on,” Gad, 43, revealed.
However, the Book of Mormon Broadway alum did reveal that there’s a good reason fans will have to wait so long for more from the Arendelle gang.
“Here’s what I can tell you,” he continued. “There’s a reason the movie is coming out in 2027. And that is because no one wants to rush this. Everyone wants this to not just be a sequel or a money grab. They want this to be absolutely worthy of the story we set out to make in 2013 [in the first Frozen movie]."
"And we want to give audiences something that is worth the years of waiting and years of anticipation. And I know that they are actively working on that. And I know that they have a story that they are very, very, very excited about.”
“And beyond that, I think I’ll have Disney lawyers knocking down my door. But buckle up because I think they have something incredible in store,” he concluded.
The original Frozen, which also featured the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Jonathan Groff, hit theaters in 2013 and became one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time. The film’s sequel, Frozen 2, was released in 2019 and also smashed box office records.
The first Frozen has also inspired a hit Broadway musical adaptation, which opened in March of 2018. The show — which is currently still running — features music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez with a book by Jennifer Lee.
Many of the Frozen cast have opened up about how the movies changed their lives — and how no one could have foreseen the franchise’s massive global impact.

"I don’t think anyone can foresee the box office — like — craziness that it hit,” Bell, 44, said while appearing on The Ellen Show in 2014.
“But I’ll tell you, when we were making it, there was a part of me that was, going, like, ‘This is really special,’ “ she continued.

“I’ve been a part of a lot of things, but it just felt so unique and I’m so proud of it. Because it’s just — unlink anything they’ve [Disney] ever done. And it’s not about romantic love. It’s about believing in someone even when they don’t believe in themselves.”
