"At some point there has to be accountability for writing your own story," he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on Friday, March 14. "Am I going to fall into that narrative of falling apart, of self-destruction? Have a struggle, blame the world. Have a struggle, hate yourself. Have a struggle, deny everything. None of those narratives is beneficial."

Prior to his arrest in March 2023, Majors was on a box office hot streak with Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and had scored an Emmy nomination for his role on HBO’s Lovecraft Country.

That career momentum came to a halt after his conviction. A judge sentenced him to probation and a 52-week domestic violence intervention program after a jury found he was guilty of assaulting Jabbari, resulting in a cut behind her ear and a broken finger. After the guilty verdict, most of Majors' Hollywood reps cut ties with him.

“There were days when it was like, ‘Is this real?’” said Majors, 35, of the period after his conviction. “It’s a heartbreak like I’ve never experienced and it just compounded and compounded.”

Since coming to terms with his role in the assault, Majors has also revealed that he experienced sexual abuse as a child—a revelation he shared with his mother, and his pastor—and has been going to therapy in the wake of the trial.

“I dealt with sexual abuse from both men and women from the time I was 9,” Majors told THR. “From people who are supposed to look after you, in the absence of a father. I was f--ked up.”

Majors added that therapy has helped him come to some self-realization.

"There are no excuses, but by getting help, you begin to understand things about yourself," he told the outlet.
