Jonathan Anderson Turns Viral ‘Loewe’ Tomato Meme Into a Luxury Clutch

When life gives you tomatoes, make a clutch.

A photo of a large heirloom tomato with deep ribbing and grooves running from the top to the bottom went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter), thanks to a comparison between the fruit with Loewe’s designs. “This tomato is so Loewe I can’t explain it,” user @homocowboi shared on Monday, garnering more than 98 thousand likes on his post since then.

Jonathan Anderson, the creative designer behind Loewe, embraced the viral moment and shared a screenshot of the post on his personal Instagram account on Tuesday. But the designer didn’t stop there.

Inspired by the heirloom tomato, Anderson revealed a clutch bag with the same ribbing design as the fruit and a golden sepal that functions as a lock. “Loewe meme to reality,” the designer wrote on his Instagram on Thursday.

The clutch reveal video has garnered more than 900,000 views in less than 5 hours.

Although the recent viral moment has seemingly surged organically, Anderson has a long tradition of releasing products that have been hits on social media crowd. In April, he launched Loewe’s viral “I Told Ya” T-shirt inspired by Zendaya‘s character Tashi Donaldson in the “Challengers” film. The T-shirt quickly took over the internet, and even celebrities, such as Jennifer Lawrence, were seen wearing it.

Under his own namesake brand, Anderson has previously released whimsical bags in the shapes of a pigeon, a frog and a cushion.
