John Capodice, 'Seinfeld,' 'Ace Ventura' and 'General Hospital' actor, dies at 83
John Capodice, an Army veteran-turned-actor known for roles in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and "General Hospital," has died. He was 83.
His death on Monday was announced in an obituary on the website of Pizzi Funeral Home in New Jersey.
The character actor made a name for himself in "Ace Ventura," where he played Sgt. Aguado, a foe of the title character played by Jim Carrey. Capodice played Carmine Cerullo, the father of Lois Cerullo, across six episodes of "General Hospital" in the mid-1990s.
He also made an appearance in Season 2 of "Seinfeld" as laundromat owner Vic, whom Jerry (played by Jerry Seinfeld) and Kramer (Michael Richards) exact revenge upon, only to find out Vic was not the culprit of Jerry's missing money.
According to Capodice's obituary, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea from 1964 to 1966. He went on to have over 100 acting credits to his name; the Italian American actor often played police officers, mafia members, mobsters and working-class figures such as bartenders and cab drivers. Capodice played a character named "Sal" on at least six occasions throughout his career.
Since 1978, his work included guest appearances on "Ellen," "Monk," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "Will & Grace," "Boy Meets World," "Living Single," "Murder, She Wrote," "NYPD Blue," "Melrose Place," "Blossom," "Seinfeld," "Murphy Brown," "Law & Order" and "As The World Turns."
In film, he appeared in "Independence Day," "Gremlins 2," and the Keanu Reeves movie "Speed."
Capodice also dabbled in voice acting for video games, animation and the like, lending his voice to 2023's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," the video game "Mafia II," the animated film "The Batman Superman Movie: World's Finest," "Superman: The Animated Series" and "Aaahh!!! Real Monsters."
