Joanna and husband Chip started working out this year because, she says, they want to "be young for the kids," ages 6 to 19
Chip and Joanna Gaines are trying something that they've never done before as a couple.
In an Instagram post shared on Monday, Jan. 27, Joanna, 46, got candid about how the couple have begun working out together and are in the process of getting into shape.
Alongside a playful video of the HGTV star working out with some weights and doing pushups (and some silly dancing to get her blood pumping), Joanna wrote candidly in the caption about how she and her husband, 50, of nearly 22 years decided to start being more active than they've been in a long time.
"For the first time in our marriage, Chip and I decided to work out together," she wrote, before crediting their trainer. "We started working w/ our friend @donsaladino in September and when he asked me to do push-ups on our first day I said, 'I can't. My back.'"
"A few months in and I've never felt stronger. Today I did FIFTY push-ups!" Joanna shares. "So I'm celebrating and putting this out there... I've let time, age, injury, and busyness be my excuse of why not to workout. I'm finally over the 'it's too hard' hump and I'm ready to go! Who's with me?!"
The couple's eldest son, 19-year-old Drake, chimed in underneath his mom's post, writing: "Mom no…." seemingly referring to her goofy dance moves.
The replies to Drake's comment are filled with crying laughing emojis from Joanna's followers and notes seemingly from fellow moms saying they can relate to embarrassing their own kids in public.

Joanna recently opened up to PEOPLE about her and Chip's mutual decision to try get into shape,
"We joke that we've known each other for 25 years and we've never once worked out together," Joanna told PEOPLE in an interview last week.
"Last year I said, 'Chip, let's start working out because I want to be young for the kids.' I feel like every choice I make now will affect me at 70, and I don't want to wait until I'm 70 to be like, 'Oops I need to fix some stuff,'" she adds.

For the mom-of-five, having 6-year-old son Crew by her side all the time motivates her to stay fit.
"I told Chip, we need to do something to make us stay strong," Joanna added. "And so we just got into this, and it's a totally different thing for us. We've never worked out together before and now we do."
According to Joanna, their farmhouse in Waco, Texas, has a "tiny home gym" that they work out in each day with the help of their trainer.
"It's just us pushing each other and holding each other accountable," she added to PEOPLE. "It's been this whole other thing, and it feels good to do it. So it's been fun — we've done so much together in the past that it's like this whole new stage in our marriage."
Chip and Joanna tied the knot in 2003 and are parents to Drake, Crew, daughters Ella, 18, and Emmie, 15, as well as son Duke, 16.
