Joan Collins, 91, Lands Starring Role in Upcoming Biopic

Joan Collins is gearing up for her latest role.

On Wednesday, the 91-year-old British actress revealed she had been cast in an upcoming project focused on telling the "untold story" of Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor

"I’m delighted to be playing #wallissimpson the #duchessofwindsor in an untold story about her final years," Collins wrote alongside a set of side-by-side black-and-white portraits of herself and the late duchess that she posted to Instagram on Jan. 29.

While many of the details related to the project are being kept under wraps, we do know one thing: Collins will be heading to set in the near future. According to the Dynasty alum, the movie will "start shooting soon in London and Paris."

"Thank you @louise.fennell #johngore #mikenewell @johngorestudios," Collins concluded, shouting out some of the crew, including film director and TV producer Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Harry Potter and the Goblet of FireDonnie Brasco and Mona Lisa Smile), 22-time Tony-winning Broadway producer John Gore, screenwriter and novelist Louise Fennell.

Speaking about the project in a statement shared with Deadline, Collins said she is "thrilled about the challenge of playing this iconic woman in a previously untold story and to be in John Gore Studios’ initial roster of what I’m sure will be a very successful endeavour."

Simpson—an American socialite who found herself embroiled in controversy after a love affair with Prince Edward, which resulted in him abdicating the throne to marry her—was previously portrayed by Lia Williams in The Crown and Eve Best in The King’s Speech.

According to the outlet, the upcoming biopic will focus on the “shocking untold story” of Simpson’s final years.
