Jimmy Kimmel Spots How Steve Bannon's Trump 2028 Talk Could Spectacularly Backfire
Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday took aim at Steve Bannon after the former Donald Trump adviser signaled his support for the president should he run for a third term in 2028, a move that would go against constitutional term limits.
“Once upon a time when you said stuff like that you were considered to be un-American,” the late night host said.
Kimmel turned to a clip of the far-right nationalist telling NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo that Trump would win in such a scenario.
“We’re working on it,” Bannon said when asked how he thinks the president gets another term.
Kimmel swiftly used Bannon’s plans to “defile the Constitution” against him, “I hope they do it though, I hope they make it so you can run for three terms. I hope that happens and Obama comes back and beats his ass.”
Bannon quieted talk of launching his own 2028 presidential campaign with his comments.
Trump has also repeatedly suggested that he may run for a third term. The 22nd Amendment of the Constitution wouldn’t allow it as it states that no person may be elected president more than twice.
Last month, the “War Room” podcast host pleaded guilty to one felony count in a border wall fraud case. He previously served four months in prison for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena tied to the committee investigating the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
