Jillian Cardarelli has always considered Vince Gill a friend.

"I first met Vince through a mutual friend who does a lot for charity golf in the Tennessee area,” Cardarelli, 31, tells PEOPLE. “So we got to know each other through him and got to play golf together quite a few times and just had a friendship through golf.”

But when the two met off the course and joined forces on stage as part of a charity event, the idea of making music together began to take off.

“I had cut this demo, and I was sitting around the dinner table with my husband, and I said, ‘I think Vince Gill would sound really good on this,’” Cardarelli remembers. “The song really lends it to that classic country sound.”

So, she texted her friend, Vince. “He called me within a half an hour,” she laughs, recalling her disbelief when she heard back from the country music legend so quickly. “He said he loved the song, and he was in.”

The song in question? “I’ll Get Over You,” a beautiful tune Cardarelli wrote alongside Patrick Murphy and Tina Parol — and PEOPLE can exclusively premiere its music video.

“It’s just crazy because I've been a Vince fan since I was five years old,” Cardarelli remarks. “His voice is so iconic. I say if there was a Mount Rushmore of country music legends, Vince Gill is on it. From his angelic voice to his guitar playing – he is a true legend. So, to have him on this is just a dream come true.”

The two music-makers recorded the song separately in their own respective studios, but the magic between their two voices still ignites on “I’ll Get Over You.”

“[Gill] has a home studio, so he did everything at his studio,” Cardarelli explains. “He sent it over to us after I laid my vocals down, but he really wrapped his voice around the lead track, and it was really special.”

One can even hear an impromptu moment in the song from Gill. “There's a little laugh that he does,” chuckles Cardarelli. “I think on the second verse, when he harmonizes, you can hear it. It really sticks out to me. Vince is just so iconic. There's no one else like him.”

The Massachusetts native also makes some magic of her own, both vocally and within the sweet lyrics found in “I’ll Get Over You.”

“I had that title in my phone for more than seven years,” Cardarelli states. “We were sitting on [co-writer[ Tina [Parol's] back porch tossing around ideas, and I was like, ‘I think this is the day to write it.’ It was a beautiful fall day, and we just kind of tossed around all the things that would never happen, like Dolly Parton being out of tune. We went down that rabbit hole of all the things that will never happen.”

While Cardarelli may have written“I’ll Get Over You,” she still finds herself madly in love with Brian Parker, her husband of three years.

“We still feel like newlyweds,” gushes the musician, who recorded the precious single “If I Could Talk to Elvis” with Larry Strickland last year. “I've learned that as a songwriter, you just pull from things, and maybe they're not even real. I always joke that my first love was heartbreak songs before I knew what heartbreak even was.”

Now, one of Cardarelli's goals is to get the chance to sing this heartbreak song on stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. “That would be an absolute dream come true,” she says. “Let’s manifest that. That would be amazing... I remember my grandparents danced to a Vince Gill song at their 50th wedding anniversary. I was five years old. His music is truly timeless.”
