Jessica Simpson gives birth to baby girl

Jessica Simpson has given birth to a baby girl, making the announcement with a sweet photo on Instagram.

The 39-year-old singer and actress – who already has daughter Maxwell, six, and son Ace, five, with husband Eric Johnson – introduced her third child named Birdie Mae Johnson.

The tot was born late on Tuesday and weighed 10lbs 13 oz (4.6kg).

“We are so happy and proud to announce the birth of our perfect daughter,” Jessica shared alongside the snap of Maxwell holding her new baby sister’s hand.

Earlier this week, sources said the ‘Blonde Ambition’ star was ready to give birth any day now, and had her “hospital bags packed” and waiting. She shared a pregnant bikini pic during the week as well, saying she is still “counting down” the days.

“Jessica is definitely uncomfortable. This has been a tough pregnancy but she knows it will all be worth it when she’s holding that little baby,” the insider said “Her hospital bags are packed. Everyone is trying to be patient, but the family is so excited and counting the minutes until the baby is here.”

Jessica herself had previously admitted she “doesn’t understand” how she got pregnant again.

“I thought about [having another baby], but I didn’t really know that it could actually happen,” she said. “We definitely always love to practice. We actually weren’t practicing very much that month so I don’t understand. We try [to figure it out]. This might be a miracle baby.”

But despite her confusion over the new arrival, her children were “so excited” to be a big brother and big sister.

“They’re so excited because they’re only fourteen months apart, so they didn’t get to experience the excitement of each other. But when I told them that we’re having another baby, I know that they’ll remember that for the rest of their lives,” the proud mum said.

“Maxwell, my daughter is just so happy that it’s a girl. They ask me the craziest questions that I can’t say on TV … ‘How does the baby come out?’ ‘Where does the milk come from, I don’t understand!’ I’m a little bit too honest, and Eric’s like, ‘I don’t think we need to give out ALL the information, Jessica. So, I’m scaring my kids, I think.”

A little “birdie” spilled the name Jessica had chosen for her baby girl a little earlier on.

Back in January, the singer and fashion entrepreneur celebrated the upcoming arrival of her third child with a baby shower attended by sister Ashlee Simpson Ross and pal CaCee Cobb.

But it was one decorating detail – a neon sign reading “Birdie’s Nest” – left little wonder as to what the bundle of joy will be named.

Given that Jessica, who is already mum to six-year-old daughter Maxwell and five-year-old son Ace, repeated the “Birdie’s Nest” phrase throughout her social media posts, fans are banking on her second daughter being named Birdie.

Guess everyone was right!
