Jessica Rowe has taken to Instagram on behalf of her husband Peter Overton to explain his absence from Nine News Sydney, saying that the beloved TV presenter will be off work a "little longer" as he recovers from a surgery.

Explaining that Pete doesn't do Instagram, Jessica let fans and friends know that the newsreader will be back on Nine News "soonish" and currently has to be resting his voice after an operation.

"As you know Pete doesn’t do Insta - and he wanted me to share some news with you. He’s off work for a little longer at the moment after an ENT surgeon discovered a polyp on one of his vocal cords which explains his very raspy voice over the holidays!" Jessica clarified.

"Speedy recovery Pete! I had the exact same thing a few years ago (curses teachers and performers). Avoided surgery for a long time but in the end I’m glad I did," one person shared. "Yes the first 10 days post-op were so hard especially when you are a chatty person like I am! Wishing you the best!"
