Jesinta Franklin reveals why she and husband Buddy slept apart
Jesinta and Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin are among the country’s most popular celebrity couples - having continually gained praise for staying united in the face of adversity.
But now the former Miss Universe Australia has revealed why she and her husband of more than two years were forced to recently sleep apart for almost two weeks.
The shock move was triggered by Jesinta contracting a serious bout of the flu early in the AFL season, which she was determined not to pass on to Buddy, who plays for the Sydney Swans.
“There was a time earlier this year that I was very unwell and I slept in the spare room for 12 nights straight,” she told Sydney Confidential, adding it was “the longest [the couple] ever spent apart”.
“I was in the spare room but that was from my own admission because I wanted to make sure he didn't get unwell as there is a risk of him getting the entire team unwell as well.”
Jesinta also confirmed the stint apart was solely due to illness and stopped as soon as her symptoms shifted.
It came more than two years after she and Buddy wed in a stunning Blue Mountains ceremony in November 2016.
The union was a widely celebrated one after Jesinta told fans the couple’s happiness was hard fought for after her husband’s public battle with his mental health saw him take time off from AFL.
“Life has presented me with some extremely challenging times over the past couple of years,” she wrote in her book Live a Beautiful Life around the same time.
"There have been just as many ups as there have been downs."
