Jesinta Franklin first found fame as Miss Universe Australia under her maiden moniker — Jesinta Campbell.

But after marrying her long-time love, AFL star, Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin in 2016, she took no time in changing her own surname to her husband’s.

Now, Jesinta has opened up to the Kyle and Jackie O Show about why she chose to change her name straight after tying the knot.

“He’s a really traditional man and I mean, if it had have meant a lot to me I’m sure I could have asked him and said ‘could you be Mr Campbell?’” she told the program.

Luckily for Buddy, Jesinta wasn’t too fussed about what she was to be known as going forward — despite many fans and media regularly, and incorrectly, using her maiden name.

“It doesn’t bother me, but my husband...whenever he reads it or hears it, he’s like ‘how hard is it?” she told the program.

Jesinta also spilled her thoughts on having apprehension toward abandoning the name which made her famous.

“Was that a discussion when you and Buddy got married, were you like well I’ve built the brand...” host Kyle Sandilands asked.

“For me I think when you’re trying to get married, if you’re trying to put your brand first, like why are you even getting married,” she explained.

“It was like, I’m marrying this man because I love him and I didn’t even think twice about it.”

The couple surprised fans back in 2016 when they wed in a luxe Blue Mountains ceremony, months after Buddy stood back from the spotlight in a bid to improve his mental health.
