Jennifer Garner Is at a Loss for Words After Surprise Phone Call From Julie Andrews
Jennifer Garner, Julie Andrews
Jennifer Garner is re-living the best birthday gift she's ever received.
The Alias alum turned 52 on Wednesday, April 17, and to celebrate, Katie Couric is throwing it back to the time legendary actress Julie Andrews surprised her with a phone call.
The adorable moment was orchestrated and shared on Instagram by Couric, who penned a sweet message to the birthday girl in the caption.
"Happy birthday to a ray of sunshine, @jennifer.garner! ☀️🥰," Couric began. "I think we can all agree that @julieandrews is the best birthday present! 💝."
The original phone call took place a few years ago in honor of Garner's 47th birthday. At the time, Garner shared only screenshots on Instagram, but now fans are getting a glimpse inside the conversation.
In the clip, Garner appears to be busy as she held a pen between her lips while looking down at her phone when the media personality called her.
"Hello?" Garner said as she reluctantly answered the phone. "Is this Jen?" the Princess Diaries actress replied. "This is Julie Andrews, Jen."
Though she was puzzled for a moment, Garner was clearly impressed once she realized who was on the other line. "Oh my god," she gasped.
"Hello!" Andrews, now 88, laughed. "I want to tell you, I'm a huge fan and love what you do, and Katie was just telling me that you were pretty admiring of me, too. So I thought, well, let's just have a chat."
Dumbfounded by the surprise, the 13 Going on 30 actress sat in silence before gushing, "Oh my gosh" a few more times.
Andrews continued to shock the star as she asked why the two haven't met in-person yet, adding, "I would love to one day."
Garner was pretty much left speechless by the request, going on to recall her experience seeing Andrews "from afar once" while at the Country Mart in Brentwood, California, noting that the only reason she didn't approach the icon was because she "couldn't possibly be normal."
"And so I admired," Garner joked.
Picking up on the silence brought on by the nerves of The Last Thing He Told Me star, Andrews asked her if she was preoccupied with dishes or "washing up."
"Of course not, Ms. Andrews," Garner said, adjusting her posture as she joked that she would "pull over and leave my children on the side of the freeway" if it meant a moment with the Sound of Music alum.
Hopefully in the five years since Andrews first rang Garner, the two have found time to sit down and chat. If not, there's always hoping that they'll run into one another at an upcoming event like the famed Met Gala.
