Janelle Monáe Wears Area Power Suit for Grammys 2025 Red Carpet
Janelle Monáe wore a bold power suit on the 2025 Grammy Awards red carpet on Sunday in Los Angeles. The singer performed at the award show in a tribute to Quincy Jones, who recently passed away in 2024.
Monáe walked the red carpet with a look designed by Area, a New York City-based label designed by Piotrek Panszczyk and Beckett Fogg, that featured her signature avant-garde style. Her outfit included a two-piece power suit in an elegant deep navy shade with a jacket that was accented with exaggerated shoulder padding and was cut with an oversized slouchy vibe. The singer opted to go shirtless underneath the blazer, which made a bold statement. The pants she wore were high-waisted and perfectly hemmed at floor length.

The look was accessorized with a police cap in the same shade as the suit, which tied the ensemble together. This hat, along with the blazer and pants, were draped with gold chains by Maison H and interspersed with large navy gemstones. She also wore an array of gold rings that matched the chains throughout her look. Finally, across Monáe’s left sleeve was a Tag Heuer watch.
During her tribute to Quincy Jones, Monáe wore an outfit inspired by Michael Jackson as she covered his hit song “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough.” She wore a classic tuxedo with silver socks and penny loafers while performing Jackson’s signature moves on stage. She would eventually rip off her jacket and shirt to reveal a graphic tee that read “I Heart QJ.”
Monáe is currently working on a film that she is set to star in, directed by Michel Gondry and Pharrell Williams. She will also receive the 2025 Vanguard Spotlight Award at the 27th Costume Designers Guild Awards on Feb. 6.
