Janelle Monáe’s deeply disturbing E.T. Halloween costume will have you phoning home for help

Watch Monáe debut her look — and her take on E.T.'s voice — on "The Jennifer Hudson Show."

The latest in Janelle Monáe's growing legion of elite Halloween costumes will have you phoning home for help.

Monáe debuted yet another impeccably crafted (yet no less disturbing) outfit on Wednesday's episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, which she attended while dressed as E.T. the alien from director Steven Spielberg's 1982 movie classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

"I never would’ve guessed I would've got to meet E.T.," Hudson said as Monáe approached the set in full prosthetics, while mimicking the character's raspy voice as she whispered, "Jennifer" multiple times for a nostalgic bit that will either tickle your Reese's Pieces or, alternatively, have you repeating "ouch" as you (unsuccessfully) attempt to sleep tonight.

"Do you hear the voice? Yes, E.T., it’s me. The finger is lighting up y’all, look!" Hudson exclaimed as Monáe's left finger began to glow, much like E.T.'s does in the movie. She again repeated Hudson's name, prompting even more excitement from the host. "E.T. knows my name! Thank you for coming to the happy place. I don’t know if I should say Janelle or E.T.?"

Monáe replied by repeating E.T.'s name before confirming, "E.T. is... Janelle Monáe!" as the audience applauded.

The 38-year-old additionally shared an elaborate photo shoot on her Instagram profile, in which she also starred as her own take on Elliott, the 10-year-old boy (originally played by Henry Thomas) who befriends E.T. in the film.

"You finally came home. Welcome back E.T. Thank you Google Maps," Monáe wrote in the caption. "Starring yours truly as both E.T. & Janellllliott."

Monáe, a 10-time Grammy-nominated recording artist and SAG Award-winning actress, previously revealed that she has an anonymous benefactor who bankrolls her elaborate Halloween costumes, whom she has deemed her "fairy Halloween mother."

"My job is to make people believe in their imagination. That is a job, that is my purpose. Imagination inspires nations," Monáe told The Hollywood Reporter. "It is important to the committee of imagineers that I go out and I do that good work. There’s a fund that is set aside to make people believe in art, and again, believe in performance art."
