Jack Vidgen reveals the major reality TV show he turned down

Jack Vidgen has starred on a number of reality shows since winning Australia’s Got Talent in 2011, including The Voice, The Masked Singer and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, but it turns out there was one major opportunity that he turned down last year.

Chatting with Yahoo Lifestyle about his impressive TV resumé, the 25-year-old pop star revealed that he said no to being a part of the RuPaul-produced drag queen singing competition Queen of the Universe.

The series premiered on Paramount+ in December and featured 14 drag queens from around the world - including Gingzilla from Sydney - being judged for their vocal abilities by Michelle Visage, Trixie Mattel, Leona Lewis and Vanessa Williams.

“I got asked to do Queen of the Universe and I said no because I had only done drag once,” Jack said. “Maybe I’ll say yes to the next season if they ask me again.”

Jack recently wowed fans on social media after he shared a snap on Instagram dressed as Marilyn Monroe to perform ‘Happy Birthday’ at a friend’s party, which he explained was only one of the few times he’s done drag.

“I don’t think about doing it full time, it's just a bit of fun,” he remarked.

“I mean, if I can dress up in drag and get paid, why not? I don't pretend to be anywhere near as multitalented as the rest of these queens out there, but if I can put on a wig and sing something and get a quick buck, why not?”

Celebrity Married At First Sight

Speaking about other Australian reality TV shows, Jack spilled on if he would ever sign up for a celebrity season of Married At First Sight.

“I don't know,” he said. “Honestly, since my last relationship, I haven't really been on a date, which was four years ago.

“I've really turned into a love avoidant, so I really don’t think I’d be good on MAFS because I’d just run the other way.”

The Lovehoney ambassador also shared that there was a turning point at the start of his career where he almost signed up for a very different reality TV show than the one that shot him to stardom.

“Instead of Australia’s Got Talent, I almost did Junior MasterChef when I was 14,” he confessed, before adding with a laugh, “I probably couldn’t even cook, to be honest, but it was an idea.”

Most recently, Jack appeared as a contestant on Australian Ninja Warrior where he won $10,000 for his chosen charity, Trish Multiple Sclerosis Research Foundation.

“They definitely asked at the right time because I’ve been trying to get into more fitness and health in the gym over the last year, so if they had asked last year it definitely would have been a different outcome,” he detailed.

“But it was for charity and my dad's had MS for most of my life and Trish Multiple Sclerosis Research Foundation was also my charity for I’m A Celebrity, and I got out first on that.

“So I was like, this is another opportunity to win them some money, and it happened and I think definitely no one expected it, me being at the top of that list. But it happened and I think it's just such a fab and fun thing and I tried to make it as camp as I could.”
