Introducing the new Bachelor, and no he's not a familiar face
After five seasons of familiar faces stepping up to find love on the Bachelor and Bachelorette Australia, this year’s Bachelor has just been announced – and he is someone completely new.
Matt Agnew is a 31-year-old astrophysicist who currently lives in Melbourne.
He wears glasses and looks dashing in a suit, so we’re already here for it.
You may not know him now, but soon you will. Matt’s looking for a love that is out of this world 😍🌏#TheBachelorAU launching soon. pic.twitter.com/eDFDDEjHY8

But he’s also super smart, like – holds a Master of Science in Astrophysics from Sweden’s Lund University, and is currently studying a PhD at the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University – smart.
He has traveled the world, from Berlin to Buenos Aires and Sweden, but with plenty of friends that are now married, Matt has decided he wants to settle down himself and find someone.
“It may be an unorthodox way to meet someone, but I think it’ll be a sensational experience and make for a cracking ‘how we met’ story,” Matt told 10daily.
“I’ve got a real ‘do it once, do it right’ mentality so I’ll be making sure I throw myself into it, be vulnerable and enjoy what comes from that.”
Speaking to Confidential, Matt also revealed loves AFL, and enjoys working out, yoga and cooking. He is one of four children and is looking to find a relationship like his parents, who have been together for more than 30 years.
Fans are already swooning over Matt, with some even joking if applications to be one of his suitors were still open.
Matt is the seventh Bachelor for the Channel 10 series. Filming for the new series began this week, so we can expect to see Matt star on the show later in the year.
